The Church of San Giorgio is considered one of the most beautiful Baroque churches in all of Campania. A true hidden gem in the heart of Salerno, it was originally built as a Benedictine monastery in the 9th century, and was later transformed in the 17th century into a baroque church of extraordinary beauty
Its interior is stunning, with gilded stuccoes, frescoes, and precious decorations. Notable works include those by Andrea Sabatini da Salerno and Francesco Solimena, great masters of the Neapolitan Renaissance and Baroque periods.
The church also holds a hidden treasure: beneath the floor are the remains of an ancient apse, frescoed with a series of Saints, dating back to the first church from the 8th century.
Beyond its artistic value, the Church of San Giorgio is also frequently used for music concerts thanks to its splendid acoustics.
The Chiesa Monumentale hosts the Christmas Concert of Opera e Lirica scheduled for 8th December 2025 at 8.30 pm, don't miss this incredible event. Book now!
