A very special year is starting at the greatest Italian theatres, and the agenda is full of grand classical music concerts and world premieres. There are going to be unmissable dates all around Italy. Firstly, the Scala Opera House in Milan will have its premiere on December 7, as tradition requires, to celebrate the day of Saint Ambrose. This year the first performance is going to be Tosca, presented by the conductor Riccardo Chailly in his cycle of Puccini operas.

The curtain of La Fenice Theatre in Venice will rise on November 24, with Don Carlo by Giuseppe Verdi, directed by Robert Carsen. The Canadian director is going to come back to the stage of La Fenice exactly fifteen years after he directed La Traviata as the first performance after the opera house was rebuilt, in the aftermath of the fire of 1996.

The 2019 opera season in Bologna is closing, instead, with two dates at the Teatro Comunale on December 15 and 22, when Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci are going to be directed by Emma Dante and Serena Sinigaglia respectively.

A glorious ballet show is going to be on stage at the San Carlo Theatre in Naples from October 18 to 23: A Midsummer Night’s Dream, with the two dancing stars Maia Makhateli and Vito Mazzeo, accompanied by the San Carlo Theatre Orchestra.
