(Scorri per l'italiano)

In 2013 you represented Italy in the Two Hundred Years' Anniversary of Verdi's birh in Málaga. How does it feel to be an Ambassador of the Italian Opera abroad?

  • I felt honoured and I was filled with a strong sense of responsibility, both because I was a bit anxious about performing a tribute to the 'most performed' composer i the world, and because the request came from the distinguished Dante Alighieri Italian Cultural Institute.

Opera e Lirica also works every day to let international guests know the culture of our Beautiful Country. What do you think the Italian Opera can convey to those who come to see us today?

  • Apart from the culture and history of our Bel Paese, also our deep feelings, passion and taste for elegance, and all the emotions that we do not only try to convey, but also to make the audience feel them, by trying to interpret the composer's intention at best.

As La Traviata's protagonist, how do you feel the relationship with Violetta's character? Did she convey something to you too, did she change you as a woman?

  • This is a very relevant question. I need to confess that they are my favourite opera and character. What to say about the idea of a woman who has never known love before meeting Alfredo, and can't let this love live because of social customs? “Even though God is merciful, Mankind will be merciless to her". She is ready to sacrifice herself fo that little light that beams into her heart. It is an ancient story but it is more modern than a contemporary tale. I don't think she changed me, I dare say she made me reveal myself! As if, through her, I want to make justice for all the women who experience unpleasant situations.

You have had great experiences both in prestigious choirs and as a soloist on the stage. What is the best part of singing in a famous choir and which, instead, is the best part of performing a soloist and protagonist role?

  • In both cases you try to work at your best and you study hard! The best thing about singing in a choir is forming part of an ensemble, being a small drop cooperating to the creation of a harmony of voices. Singing in an important choir means always learning, especially when you appreciate the conductor a lot. When singing as a soloist, instead... There's a greater challenge. I am quite certain that the best part of singing as a soloist, for me, is feeling the audience's emotions through their eyes when they listen...

What are your next goals?

  • I would really like to play the role of Liù in Puccini's Turandot…

And what are the goals you would like to reach with us?

  • Maybe bringing my Violetta, our Traviata and our culture abroad too.

  • ITALIANO
